Bouquet Deconstructed
Welcome to a new feature we will be posting weekly on the blog. It is called "Bouquet Deconstructed." Each week you will get to see one of the gorgeous bridal bouquets created by the Planterra Floral Team and we will highlight the floral elements we've used. We hope it will be a great resource for flowers and bouquet inspiration. And it will definitely be pretty to look at!!
Floriography: The Secret Language of Flowers in the Victorian Era
If you received a bouquet of flowers from a colleague, friend or co-worker your first move may be to thank them and find a pretty vase to display them in. However, if you were living in the 19th century you may have just received a hidden message.
Downton Abbey Fashion and Floral Inspiration
Over the last 5 years, Downton Abbey has become a household name and has also become synonymous with fashion and design through the early 1900’s. The British Masterpiece Classic drama has inspired us at Planterra with their lush and beautiful floral designs. These arrangements highlight the dramatic flair and ethereal look of the time and have beautifully set the stage for telling the story of Downton.
Planterra Loves: Unique Wedding Songs for Your First Dance
For some couples it’s a no-brainer when it comes to selecting a song for their first dance. For other couples, its hard to find a song that encompasses how they feel about each other without playing the same songs we’ve all heard at weddings. Our Events Director, David has come up with a list of 11 songs that are just as beautiful as they are unique.
Planterra Summer Tasting
We held our summer tastings last week and as always it was great to enjoy a special evening with our wonderful clients. The tastings give our clients an opportunity to try an array of menu options and get a true understanding of the quality of the food.
Sunday Wedding Soiree
Sundays are perfect for a less traditional wedding. Do you fancy a strolling brunch with mimosas in the sunshine? Do you prefer an acoustic guitar performance over a DJ spinning dance music?
Mother of the Bride Style
Mother's Day is the perfect time to say thanks to your mom for all she does for you. It is also a great time for us to discuss Mother-of-the-Bride style! We've been lucky to work with some very stylish "MOBs" over the years. Here are a few things they have kept in mind when selecting a look for their daughter's big day.
Candlelit Elegance: A Tropical Wedding Open House Experience in the Heart of Michigan
This past Friday we hosted our First Open House. We set the Conservatory for a wedding and opened the space up to our clients, possible future clients and event planners. While sipping champagne and sampling petite desserts, guests strolled through the Conservatory and see how it is transformed for an event.
Tanith Belbin & Charlie White's Garden Wedding at Planterra
This past weekend was a special day for us here at the Conservatory. Planterra hosted Olympic ice dancers, Tanith Belbin and Charlie White, along with their family and friends in what the Detroit Free Press called, “Ice Dancing's version of a Royal Wedding.” The bride and groom are so charming and we had a wonderful time working with them.
Jaw Dropping Floral Wedding Cakes
A trend becoming more and more popular in weddings (especially in garden weddings) is adding floral designs to the wedding cake. We have seen an influx of pictures from our brides, bakeries and guests, tagging us on social media with the awesome floral wedding cakes they have seen or created. We wanted to compile a few of our favorites (there are so many to choose from!) that highlight different ways you can style your dessert table with treats and floral!
The Conservatory Grounds: Moving The Photos Outside
A lot of thought goes into the pictures that our couples take indoors, but what about outside? We have noticed a recent trend of wedding couples utilizing some of our stunning outdoor areas for photo opportunities.
Planterra's Winter Wedding Menu Tasting
This week we hosted our Winter Tasting. It was a great night, giving our clients the opportunity to sample many of the menu selections available to them and sip from our wine list. It gave us the chance to design an event using the floral and decor elements most inspiring to us at the moment. Take a look at our picks for this tasting's design.
