Top Tips for Friday & Sunday Weddings

Getting married on a Saturday seems like the norm, so Saturday dates fill up first for weddings. Some clients will wait for a year even two years to get a Saturday date, but we say, "Why wait?" If you open yourself up to the idea of a Friday or Sunday wedding you will find some real advantages. Here are our favorite reasons to go with a Friday or Sunday wedding and they are quite enticing.
Availability
The venue of your dreams has openings on Fridays and Sundays. For example, here at the Conservatory we only have four Saturdays left in 2018, but there are many more Fridays and Sundays to choose from. Not only is there more availability at the venue, but you will find that many other vendors have openings in their calendars as well. For example, that amazing photographer who's images you love or that bakery that makes your dream cake can likely accomodate you since they are not as busy on Fridays and Sundays either.

Unique Options
A Saturday wedding is always pretty straight forward - ceremony, dinner and dancing. Fridays and Sundays can open some more creative options.
For Sundays, start earlier in the day. We love wedding brunches. Think bloody mary bar, a barista station, maybe a string quartet. There is something very sophisticated about a Sunday afternoon affair.
If you go with a Friday evening ceremony and cocktail party, it leaves the rest of the weekend to enjoy with your guests. Take advantage of your city by designing a day around things you love to do. Plan a Saturday brunch or luncheon as a second celebration at one of your favorite restaurants. Take in a ball game, see a show or plan an outside activity like sailing or kayaking. You can be creative here, it's all doing what you love and enjoying it with the people you love.
For example, here in Detroit, hire a bus from the Detroit Bus Company to whisk your guests from the hotel into the city. Head to Eastern Market and start with coffee & beignets from Beignets 2 Go and let your guests explore the market. Then you can head over to Comerica Park to watch the Tigers. End up back at the hotel for guests to refresh and end the night with another gathering at your favorite restaurant or bar.
Price
It is an industry truth, there is often a bit of savings if you select a Friday or Sunday over a Saturday. Rental fees, food and beverage minimums and vendor rates are often a little less on a non-Saturday. These savings can allow you to spend a bit more on fantastic floral, stunning details like cut glass water goblets and farm chairs or wine service during dinner.
Your dream wedding just may be more dreamy not on Saturday.
