One of the great things about work at Planterra is all the talented and creative people we get to work with every day.  One of our very favorites is photographer, Marek Dziekonski.  We love it when Marek is in the building!  He shoots many weddings here at the Conservatory and he worked with us on our staff photographs.  It was an all-day, highly-stylized photoshoot complete with hair, make-up and costumes.  It was a blast!  And Marek’s photo editing doesn’t hurt either.

Recently I asked Marek to share his thoughts and work with us…

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your business and what you do?

Dziekonski Photography is myself (Marek) and my beautiful wife, life saver, studio manager and the welcoming voice you will hear when you call us (Anne). In wedding photography I strive for a style that could be described as photojournalistic, romantic and serene. In principle it's more about capturing the emotion, chemistry and personality that a couple shares and less about re-staging popular poses. Two years ago we opened a commercial branch of our business and, whenever I get a chance to, I love to incorporate that experience into engagement photoshoots which often times results in some spectacular and unique images.

How did you get started?

My love for photography began in Poland where one rainy afternoon my brother gave me a fantasy book. At twelve years of age I was absolutely captivated by its power to immerse the reader in a place that didn't even exist. For years I searched for a medium that would allow me to do the same thing. Once I got my first camera I knew the search was over!

What is best your advice for your clients or brides planning their weddings?

Don’t stress about the weather, don’t worry about ruining your make up with an occasional tear, don’t worry about a fuzzy (or *GASP* dirt) on your dress or an uncle who gets “funny” when he’s drunk. You are marrying the most amazing person in the world. You will take care of each other until the end of your lives and that is the most important thing. All the little (or even big!) “imperfections” are what will make your day unique, memorable and, ultimately, perfect. This day only happens once. Don’t worry; just enjoy it!

You see so many weddings and all the gorgeous details, if you were getting married right now what would you incorporate into your special day?

From an event design perspective, I think one of the things I continuously see making a large impact on the overall ambiance and mood of the day is the lighting, especially uplighting. It's amazing how much it can transform and/or compliment the décor of the ceremony and/or reception. However, it should be used tastefully and in moderation (blasting flashing colors of the rainbow may be quite distracting and/or leave some guests seizing at their tables).
