Long Distance Wedding Planning

We work with a lot of out-of-state couples.  As a full-service wedding venue, Planterra has the ability to make planning from far away a bit easier on the client, so we are often a good fit for couples looking to plan a Michigan wedding from far away.  We asked Brooke and Brett, one of our lovely couples from New York, to share a bit about their experience and advice they have for others.  Also we are going to give you a sneak peek at a few photos from their wedding.  Their full gallery will be available soon.  It was a gorgeous wedding!

Where do you live?

New York, NY

What circumstances led to hosting the wedding here in Michigan as opposed to your town?

My husband and I are originally from Michigan and New York, respectively. As we knew that at least half of of our wedding guests would be traveling from afar, we wanted to choose a location that would be the easiest and most convenient for all of our guests to stay, as well as to explore.

How did you go about selecting the venue?  Did you travel in for tours prior to making a decision?

As for selecting the venue, we searched high and low for something that was truly unique, something that wasn't cookie-cutter, something that felt magical and would stick out in ours' and our guests' minds. We actually booked Planterra sight unseen because of the glowing online reviews, all the photos of the incredible floor-to-ceiling glass windows and lush greenery, and our many interactions with the incredible Planterra team via email and over the phone.

What were the challenges that long distance planning presented?

One of the challenges that we encountered was not being able to pop in to Planterra and see events that were already in full bloom, in order to get a feel for what a live event in the venue looked like. However, the team at Planterra assured us of our decisions during the planning process, and made us feel so comfortable that we knew everything would turn out beautifully - no matter what!

How many times did you need to travel in for wedding planning?

We traveled in to Michigan 3 times for wedding planning.

How did Planterra help ease the difficulty in planning from a distance?

David and Anne (and the rest of the incredibly talented Planterra team) truly went above and beyond to capture our vision – which came to life beyond what we expected! My husband and I (and our mothers) knew that we were in good hands from the very beginning with the Planterra team's spectacular attention to detail. They were amazing to work with, were incredibly accommodating, and were constantly available to answer any and all of our questions throughout the entire process. It was clear to us that they love doing what they do, and in result, made the process fun and seamless!

How long before the wedding did you arrive in Michigan?

We arrived in Michigan 5 days prior to our wedding.

What advice would you give others planning from out-of-state?

For those who are planning weddings from out-of-state, our advice would be to find a venue that is as "all-inclusive" as Planterra was. The floral, catering, linens and decor were all arranged and done in house, and all other vendors that we used came highly recommended by the Planterra team. Additionally, make sure to partner with a venue that sees your "vision" from the very beginning! We felt that we were in such good hands by the team at Planterra that it allowed my husband and I to really focus on one another and to not worry about any of the little wedding details - of which we knew would be perfectly handled!
