Our brides are constantly surprising us with the creative and unique ways they utilize our conservatory space. A lot of thought goes into the pictures that our couples take indoors, but what about outside?  We have noticed a recent trend of wedding couples utilizing some of our stunning outdoor areas for photo opportunities.  A lot of people don’t realize it, but we use every inch of land here at Planterra and the results bring some added value to our couples on the big day.  We are happy to present the Grounds of Planterra!

The Bug and Hill

The “Bug” is one of Planterra’s best known landmarks. Driving by the Conservatory you might almost miss it if it weren’t for the boxwood covered VW Bug.  It’s a no-brainer that this is a popular spot for couples to take photo’s because of its uniqueness to our location.  In fact, the Bug was the reason we decided to write on this topic!  For an even more interesting flair to your photo, make sure you get a nighttime shot with the bug – it lights up green! The Hill is another location just adjacent to the bug that a lot of couple have been using for elevated shots. As with the treeline, the backdrop of the trees across Drake can be especially breathtaking in the Fall.

The Patio

Everyone knows about the patio. The standard outdoor nighttime shot at the front entrance is fast becoming a signature shot for every couple.  However, there are other interesting ways to utilize this space even in the winter months.Utilizing the corner of the patio can provide some great shots showing outdoor color with the indoor greenery in the background. It’s also a great space for group shots and nighttime shots as the glass conservatory provides interesting colors once the sun goes down.

The Retention Pond

Most people don’t realize that behind the conservatory, way in the back, we have a retention pond. This isn’t your ordinary retention pond. In the summer, beautiful wildflowers start sprouting up around the pond and there is a walking area around the pond, making it great for potential photo opportunities.

The Garden and Tree Line

Planterra’s Farmer Eric has done a great job planting Michigan Ground Cherries and other varieties of fruits and herbs in our garden area on the other side of the parking lot. The garden is not very noticeable if not in the spring or summer seasons, but can be utilized for some interesting outdoor shots much like the couple in the above photos.

The tree line offers a unique photo backdrop for posed photography. In the Fall, the tree colors can help create some truly magical shots.
