Pantone Color of the Year - 2019
Living Coral is the 2019 Color of the Year!
"Just as coral reefs are a source of sustenance and shelter to sea life, vibrant yet mellow, Pantone 16-1546, Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment," Pantone stated in their announcement of the new color of the year. The search for the 2019 color took Pantone into nature, under the sea, to the glorious coral reefs. On their website Pantone describes Living Coral as “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.” They refer to it as “sociable and spirited.”
Every year the Pantone Color of the Year influences all areas of design and culture - fashion, interiors, beauty, technology, and of course, weddings. We are excited to bring this bright shade, the color of coral reefs, sunsets and citrus alive in our Planterra weddings.
So I asked David for some insight on he hopes to use coral in his upcoming designs. First off, he thinks of using coral as not just the one shade that is Living Coral, but as the coral color family - the lightest peach to the brightest coral. This family of shades offers lots of options for wedding design. Think flowers, dresses, stationary, cocktails, even food.
There are many floral varieties available in coral. Peonies, garden roses, ranunculus, poppies, hypericum and pincushion protea to name just a few. These blooms are big and small and offer a wide range of textures which will make flowers a great way to pull coral into a wedding design.
David's favorite way to use coral is as a bright pop against other colors. Coral looks great against blues, greens, yellows, blush and white. You do not need your entire palette to be coral, using it as an interesting addition to other colors is unexpected and very appealing.
